First, thank you to Pomera USA for gifting me the Pomera DM250US. When I first heard about it months ago, I secretly hoped they'd send me one, but I never reached out. So you could only imagine my surprise when they reached out to me asking for a review of the product. I will forever be grateful that people even value my opinion on these things.

My Initial Thoughts

-Feels and looks very Y2K, like an old electronic dictionary

-It is SO fast and responsive

-I love the LCD screen

-The keys are small

Pros and Cons

What is a pro to me might be a con to you and vice versa, but this is what I found as a "con"

Cons

-The material is very susceptible to fingerprints if they're greasy

-The smaller keyboard size and arrow keys have a learning curve

-No backlit keyboard (not really an issue because I can type with my eyes closed, but it would've been nice)

Pros

This list is actually quite long; it's embarrassing

-It's very discreet, no obvious branding

-It's light, but also very sturdy

-SD Card. Need I say more? I can literally save my doc to my device or my SD card and I love that

-You can use an external keyboard

+It has so many abilities, but these are my favorite

-You can actually edit on it and select text and everything, which I thought I wouldn't do because zero drafter, but I love it so much and I'm excited to write a novel on it

-Outline

-Can add lines and lined numbers, which I'm going to assume is great for songwriters and poets -Easy upload using the free mobile app

-Can screenshot (I took a screenshot, but I don't know where it went)

-The help tab tells you all the shortcuts, and I just didn't know I needed that

-Literally a calendar that you can add a note/doc to for whatever day. It’ll be great for me to keep track of what scenes need to be written that day

The Review

If you haven’t already guessed… I really like this device. When I first got it, I didn't expect to use it to its full capabilities. I thought it would be another device for me to zero-draft on, but I have been drafting short stories and editing them, and it's safe to say I'm obsessed.

I also love that it's such a discreet device without obvious branding, but it's still a conversation piece. I wish I could speak on the battery, but I haven't done my ultimate test yet, which is ten thousand words in twenty-four hours, because I'm not actively drafting a novel. However, I've used it for hours at a time, and the battery didn't decrease too much.

It would be nice if I knew the exact percentage, but it only shows the bar. Either way, I think one of my favorite features is the ability to save to an SD card, but my MacBook does not recognize it when plugged in—could be a skill issue.

Anyway, back to the device.

One of my favorite features is the outline, full stop. I haven't tried to write a full novel using it like I said, but it's been great for planning my short. One could even split the doc into sections to easily navigate it. This feature alone would've been a game-changer back in college.

In addition to the outline feature, you can view two editable documents side-by-side, and it’s fairly easy to switch back and forth. It also has a dark mode for those who can’t handle a glaring white page.

I don't know if it can send directly to a printer, and quite frankly, I don't care to find out because I can just send the doc anywhere from the app, including my printer. I’m also curious about future accessories and updates, but mainly accessories. I sewed my own bag for this, but I’d love options that I don’t have to make.

Overall, I’ve had this product for less than a month, but I love it and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a digital typewriter.

Disclaimer: I know that this is a niche device, and it’s not a necessity. I would never tell anyone they HAVE to buy a device if they want to be a "serious" writer. I enjoy this device, and it will definitely be my go-to when writing anything, but when it comes to writing, do what you can and use what you have.

UPDATE [10/29/25]: I've had this device for close to two months now and I just love it so much. I've been utilizing the comparison and outline features just as much as I thought I would and I thought I'd leave my documents unorganized, but having folders and the ability to preview a document without opening it? Gamechanger. I took this device with me to Savannah and fell even more in love. It's what I reach for whenever I need to write more than two sentences. It's truly blown me away with its simplicity, responsiveness, and features.

I still haven't written a full-length novel on it yet, but I'll come back here with another update when I do.
